Excellent Supertone button accordion made in Germany in the Hohner factory. It is in very good condition. There is little wear anywhere. The white plastic covered wood case is in great shape. The original bellows are tight. Some wear to the bellows tape but it has been retaped where needed. They feature very colorful papers. It has 21 treble buttons and 12 bass buttons. The low buttons on each row of the treble side are the standard Hohner accidentals. The zinc reed plates have the ‘H’ marking on the treble, chord and bass reeds. It has steel reeds. This has had extensive restoration. The pads have been redone using felt backed leather. This quiets the action and provides good sealing. The treble button travel has been limited so that the buttons don’t disappear down into the holes but stop near flush. The back has a new grill cloth. The back is solid wood, not plywood, and had cracked so I have reglued it.
The 12 basses are fairly unusual and add nice variety including two additional minor chords. The buttons were originally arranged in a staggered configuration. One row has been shifted so they are now inline as modern instruments are configured. These are particularly resonant.
The bellows gaskets have been replaced. The straps are worn but functional so they have been left in place. The wooden keyboard is intact with very little wear. Often there are cracks or entire sections missing between keys on some of these old Hohners. The original thumb loop in in place but I have added shoulder strap brackets. I have just tuned all 144 reeds. On the treble side the tremolo beat frequency is around 1 Hz for the lowest notes gradually rising to 6 Hz on the upper notes. The original leather one way valves were all removed and replaced with modern plastic one way valves for long trouble free life. All reedplates were removed, cleaned, one-way valves replaced and remounted & rewaxed onto the reedblocks. Final tuning occurs in situ with the reedblocks inside the case.
No strap is included but are available for sale in the Miscellaneous category.
