Restored Master Supertone button accordion in the keys of GC circa 1935. It is in very good condition overall. The white plastic covered wood case is in very good shape but shows normal wear for an instrument of this age. The original bellows have beautiful printed papers and are reasonably tight. It has 21 treble buttons and 16 bass buttons. The low buttons on each row of the treble side are accidentals. The original treble, chord and bass reeds are steel on individual zinc plates have an “O” marking. The original leather one way valves have all been replaced with modern plastic film one way valves. Final tuning occurs in situ with the reedblocks inside the case. The bellows gaskets have been replaced. On this instrument the extra step of repadding all of the treble and bass pallets has been performed. This provides a better seal and makes the button action noticeably quieter.
As the photo shows, the wooden grill is in decent shape. There are some small cracks in the thin white plastic veneer but the wooden frame has no breaks or missing pieces. The front grill cloth is original. The wooden keyboard is intact with no cracks or missing pieces. Often there are cracks or entire sections missing between keys on some of these old accordions. The bass and bellows straps are old but functional. The thumb loop is intact but old. I have added strap brackets for a single shoulder strap.
There are 16 basses on this which is unusual for a 2 two button accordion. In this rare instance, I am willing to rearrange the bass/chord buttons to your liking included in the selling price. I have only tack-waxed the reedplates in place. One photo shows the existing layout and which bass/chord pairs are available.
If the existing layout is acceptable I will final wax the reedplates and reduce the price by $50.
The 16 bass design makes this a unique and wonderful instrument. It is particularly suited to accompanying singing. The video doesn’t do justice to the fantastic rich sound the basses make.
Most of these older accordions are found with numerous notes out of tune, wheezing or not sounding at all. This was just fully tuned. There are 164 reeds in this instrument and every single one has been tuned. The reeds were tuned dry on both the treble and bass sides.
