Hohner Pokerwork button accordion in the keys of C/F. This was made in Germany in the Hohner factory in the latter half of the 20th century. It is in good condition overall. The painted wood case is in good shape but shows paint wear on the underside where it rests on the knee during play. The original bellows have colored papers and are reasonably tight. The bellow tape has some wear on the underside from use but is still functioning normally. It has 21 treble buttons and 8 bass buttons. The low buttons on each row of the treble side are the standard Hohner accidentals. The original treble, chord and bass reeds are steel on aluminum plates (except for a few on zinc) and have the Hohner “H” or “T” marking. The original leather one way valves were in very good condition. I restored or replaced all non-functioning valves. Final tuning occurs in situ with the reedblocks inside the case.
As the photo shows, the metal grill is in nice shape with no rust. The grill cloths are fine. The wooden keyboard is intact with no cracks or missing pieces. It shows normal wear around many of the button holes from many hours of play.Often there are cracks or entire sections missing between keys on some of these old accordions. I have added button travel limiting so they stop approximately flush with the top of the keyboard. The bellows straps are used and rough and don’t match but functional.
It has an old but functional thumb loop. I have added new shoulder strap brackets. I will include a used but functional strap.
Most of these older Hohner accordions are found with numerous notes out of tune, wheezing or not sounding at all. This was just fully tuned. There are 124 reeds in this instrument and every single one has been tuned. The treble reeds were tuned with a tremolo beat frequency of approximately 3 Hz at the low notes gradually rising to about 6 Hz at the high notes, for a sweet tremolo.
Unlike most of the older Hohner boxes purchased on ebay, this is ready to play without further adjustment required. I repair and tune button accordions and have specialized in older Hohner button boxes.
