Nice old Hohner piano accordion. This is a small model with 24 basses. It weighs less than 9 pounds so delightful to hold and play compared to standard size piano accordions weighing in at 15 or 20 or more pounds. Made in Germany with nice Hohner reeds. It is in very good condition overall. The white painted wood case has nice decorations and include a number of ‘jewels’ as part of the motif. It is in very good shape with some wear and no missing trim pieces. Often there are cracks or pieces or decorations missing. The original bellows are reasonably airtight and show normal wear on the tape from use where the instrument rests on your knee.
It has 15 white keys, 10 black keys for two octaves and 24 bass buttons with low note, major & minor chords in 8 keys. The reed plates are aluminum made in Germany. It has steel reeds. The original leather one way valves were all removed and replaced with modern plastic one way valves for long trouble free life. All reedplates were removed, cleaned, coarse tuned in a fixture then rewaxed onto the reed blocks. Final tuning occurs in situ with the reedblocks inside the case. I added an anti-resonance crossbar between the two treble blocks to minimize undesirable ‘wah-wah’ effect.
As the photos show, the metal grill is in good shape. The front and rear grill cloths are intact. The keyboard is intact with no cracks or missing pieces and keys are level. The bass strap and bellows straps looks old but functional. It has shoulder strap brackets. No shoulder straps are included but are available in the misc. category.
Most of these older accordions are found with numerous notes out of tune, wheezing or not sounding at all. This was just fully tuned. There are 180 reeds in this instrument and every single one has been tuned. The treble reeds were tuned with a mild tremolo. The bass and chords were tuned ‘flat’, right on pitch at A=440 reference.
