Nice, older Castagnari Lilly in the keys of GC made in Italy in 1998. It is in very nice condition. There is no appreciable wear on the bellows but has a few small bumps in spots. It plays beautifully and has many years of service in reserve. The case appears to be walnut wood and is small and elegant. It has the cast metal Castagnari logo on the case. Although plain, the box has a simple beauty to it.
The original bellows are tight and are nicely broken in. It has 21 treble buttons and 8 bass buttons. It feature a third button start that works well with this low pitched GC key. The low buttons on each row of the treble side are standard Castagnari accidentals. This features fine Italian steel reeds on aluminum reedplates. The wooden grill is perfect as is the grill screen. The wooden keyboard is intact with no apparent wear. The bass and bellows straps are used but functional. The bass strap is adjustable with a buckle. The thumb loop has been removed and it has shoulder strap brackets and an original Castagnari single strap. It will be shipped the original Castagnari hardshell case.
The reeds are all in tune and since it is a single voice instrument are completely ‘dry’ like a concertina. The basses are tuned on pitch and the chords currently have the thirds taped off. If the buyer wants the thirds restored I will remove the tape before shipping.
This is a very compact box and plays with a light touch. The button action is superb and it plays like butter. It weighs a delightful 4.3 pounds. It is great for travel. Take it with you and practice anywhere. This is a fine example of early Castagnari craftsmanship in a very playable & affordable state. Used Castagnaris are somewhat rare in the US so here is an opportunity to own a great players box for reasonable cost.
